PAMS Cell Phones and Other Electronic Devices

The use of cell phones and electronic devices continues to be a distraction during the school day. This includes texting, using social media, and video and audio taping.  Our school improvement goal is to increase the sense of safety for students at school.  We recognize cellphones can offer unlimited access to rumors, threats, and harassment while at school. These devices also disconnect students during class and free time from the opportunities for positive face to face connection with their school and peers.

Beginning Tuesday, November 8th, students will be expected to follow the expectations below.

Student Expectation:

  • We encourage you to leave cell phones and other electronic devices at home.
  • If cell phones or other electronic devices are brought to school, they must be locked in the locker and turned off during the entire school day (8:05 am – 2:50 pm).

Nov.  8 – Nov. 15th –   PAMS staff will be following the PBIS model (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) and supporting students this week while they transition to this new expectation.  This week, if cell phones are in sight, students will be asked to put them in their locker.

Beginning Nov. 16th -   If cell phones/devices are not in lockers,

  • First offense – Student receives a warning and reminder, and the phone/devices is returned to the locker.
  • Second offense –Phone/devices go to office and returned to student at the end of day.
  • Third offense – Phone/devices goes to the office for parent pick up.

Repeated offenders will be told that phone/devices do not come to school for 1 week.

Parent/guardian information

  • Parents/guardians who need to contact their child during the school day may call the main office at 273-4760 and a message will be relayed to the student.
  • If necessary, students can return your call using a school phone.
  • Calling a student’s cell phone or texting your child during the school day encourages your child to be in violation of school expectations.
  • We would appreciate your support in helping students have a positive experience at school by helping your child understand and follow this important new expectation.
